Ping ??iTunes Ping, to use its proper name ??is a social network of sorts that's baked into Apple's desktop?media player software. The folks who notice that it even?exists tend to be more annoyed than pleased with it.
Well, Apple finally got the message and started making plans to put Ping out of its misery, according to a report.
All Things D's John Paczkowski writes that "sources close to the company" say that Apple will not put Ping into the next major version of iTunes,?"which is likely scheduled for this fall."?
"And at that point Apple?s social networking offerings will shift to Twitter and new partner Facebook entirely," elaborates Paczkowski.
This report?falls in line?with remarks made by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the recent All Things Digital conference.?When asked about what happened to Ping, Cook explained that it seems as if the average customer is saying that it "isn?t something that [he or she wants] to put a lot of energy into."
"Will we kill it? I don't know. We'll look at that."
