Samsung has got the approval from the Korean government to setup a NAND flash memory plant in China. The decision came after the Ministry of Knowledge Economy held two meetings to evaluate the company?s technology plans, possible technological leaks and the impact on South Korean economy since Samsung contributes a decent chunk of exports.
The location of the plant is yet to be decided but the construction is expected to begin later this year, after an approval from the Chinese government. The plant will also help Samsung to tap in the growing flash memory demands of the Chinese market.
Samsung will produce 100,000 12-inch wafers per month which will be used in mobile devices like smartphones, music players and tablets.
