Brown Looks to Extend Eight-Match Winning Streak
NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? The Yale men's tennis team will play at home for the first time this season when the Bulldogs host the Yale Shootout on Saturday and Sunday.? The Elis will be competing against players from the squads of Army and St. Bonaventure.? All 12 members of Yale's team will be in action.
Though the two-day event will not have a fixed format, the Bulldogs will be sure to relish the opportunity to compete on their home courts before the upcoming Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships and the Connecticut State Championships, both of which will be held at Yale this year. The Yale Shootout will be the Bulldogs' third event as a team, having taken part in the Princeton-Farnsworth Invitational and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Collegiate Invitational earlier this season.?
Senior captain Daniel Hoffman and classmate John Huang will be eyeing Yale's tennis venue as the ideal setting to regroup after unsuccessful singles campaigns at the ITA All-American Championships.? Hoffman is ranked No. 114 in the nation in singles while Huang is one spot higher, at No. 113.? Notably, Huang went undefeated when playing at home during the 2012 spring season (9-0), while Hoffman finished last season with three straight Ivy League wins at home.? Senior Marc Powers, meanwhile, will be returning to action at the Yale Shootout and will likely join forces with Hoffman for doubles, with whom he is ranked No. 54 in the country.? Classmate Zachary Dean will look to replicate his form at the Princeton-Farnsworth Invitational that saw him win a doubles main draw along with junior Kyle Dawson.
Dawson, along with classmates Patrick Chase and Tommy Ratchford, will seek to improve upon their singles records for the season.? Sophomores Daniel Faierman and Zachary Krumholz both had relatively successful singles campaigns at National Tennis Center for the USTA Collegiate Invitational, and will look to build on their success against Army and St. Bonaventure.? Their classmate, Matt Saiontz, has won two of his three singles matches this season.
Freshman Jason Brown is riding a wave of momentum going into the Yale Shootout, as he is on an eight-match winning streak in singles to start the season.? This streak includes five three-set wins and main draw victories at both the Princeton-Farnsworth Invitational and the USTA Collegiate Invitational.? Brown has also been impressive in doubles, having reached the final of his doubles draw at the USTA Invitational along with classmate Martin Svenning.? Svenning himself has enjoyed several wins already in his rookie season.?
