T-Birds begin search for assistant coach

Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell this morning announced assistant coach Darren Rumble has accepted the head coaching position with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

"Darren did a very good job for us, and we wish him all the best with his new team as a head coach," Farwell said.

It was a difficult decision for Rumble, who was an assistant coach with the T-Birds for the past two seasons. He joined the T-Birds on June 28, 2011.

"Russ and Steve (head coach Steve Konowalchuk) are two of the finest people I have ever had the privilege to be associated with, both personally and professionally. This was not an easy decision as the T-Birds are on the upswing and there are going to be some exciting times ahead for the team," Rumble said. "Professionally, though, this was an opportunity to be a head coach I couldn't pass up. I would like to thank all the T-Birds fans for their support the last two years and wish the team all the best going forward."

The T-Birds will begin a search for an assistant coach immediately. The new assistant coach will join Konowalchuk and assistant coach Jim McTaggart for the 2013-14 season. Candidates interested in joining the T-Birds coaching staff should send a cover letter and resume to Farwell at hr@seattlethunderbirds.com .

T-Birds single-game tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale on Aug. 20 online on the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office.

T-Birds season tickets are on sale. They can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.
