LEICESTER, England (AP) - Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been fired as manager of the second-tier club Leicester after just more than a year.

Eriksson spent heavily in the offseason in an attempt to meet the Thai owners' goal of returning to the Premier League. But Eriksson leaves with the team in 13th place in the League Championship after Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Millwall.

The team said on its website it will begin its search for a new coach "in the coming days."

Eriksson managed Lazio and Benfica before leading England from 2001-06. Since then, he has also managed the English clubs Manchester City and Notts County as well as Mexico's national team.
